About database

Even though recording osteometric data is a standard procedure in the study of ancient burial grounds, anthropologists rarely publish such data in their entirety. An open database for bone remains from Berenike is expected to overcome this shortcoming of the bioarchaeological studies conducted to date. Its open form will allow data to be added by specialists working at other archaeological sites around the world. This in turn will provide the possibility of future comparative analyses between different populations. The database includes metric measurements and qualitative descriptions of human bones (including pathological changes) together with photographic documentation. The strategy of open access to the information obtained in the field is to enable the documentation to be used quickly and as fully as possible by a wide range of specialist.
